The Drink of the Summer Is a Sunscreen-Flavored Smoothie from Erewhon
We just want to know if it tastes good.
The infamous, upscale supermarket chain Erewhon is known for three things: Its steep prices, celeb spottings, and health-conscious smoothie collabs.
And in the wake of instant classics like Hailey Bieber’s Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie (which was so successful it was made a permanent menu item), Erewhon has teamed up with viral sensation Vacation sunscreen to create the newest blended bev of the summer: the Vacation “Sunscreen” Smoothie.
Pulling inspiration from Vacation’s Classic Lotion formula—which smells like a nostalgic combo of coconut, banana, chlorine, and swimsuit lycra—the ingredients for this concoction include coconut water, coconut milk, coconut soft serve, coconut meat, coconut whipped cream, banana, aloe vera, Tahitian vanilla, blue spirulina, and sea salt. Needless to say, it’s an ode to the coconut.
The Sunscreen Smoothies are served in 12-ounce cups for $9 (and free for Erewhon members until June 14). This is a relatively inexpensive option at Erewhon seeing that Bieber’s popular 20-ounce drink rings in at a whopping $19.
As we well know, these exorbitant price tags aren’t uncommon for Erewhon. Redditors regularly ask one another if the supermarket’s goods are actually worth it with one going so far as to say, “I like to think that Erewhon was founded by Lucille Bluth and that its pricing system was just her guessing at how much she thought things would cost. Eggs? $16 for a dozen seems about right. Hot sauce? Hmm…$48? shopping bag? I dunno...$45?” The Arrested Development stans will get this joke.
On TikTok, the reviews have slowly started to pour in, with some stating that banana is the main flavor that comes through. Others are just curious as to how a sunscreen-inspired smoothie could possibly taste good. According to Founding Partner of Vacation Lach Hall, “People have been telling us that [Vacation] ‘smells good enough to eat.’ We had too much fun working with the smoothie kings themselves to create a drinkable and delicious iteration of Classic Lotion sunscreen.”
All of this said, those in proximity to an Erewhon have until the end of June to try the Vacation “Sunscreen” Smoothie. This smoothie plus a bottle of Vacation’s Classic Lotion and you’re practically an IG ad for summertime.
